BRUTALIST YET DELICATE ROBUST YET TENDER
2023
This collection helps to hide.
Helps to beautify.
Helps to embellish those who much like me battle with their body on the sidelines, unnoticed by the public.

Sound on the surface although in combat within.
Both brutalist yet delicate, robust yet tender.
I have created medical garments that although impractical strive to show that illness can in fact be beautiful and sustainable.

Type 1 Diabetes is an invisible illness. Time after time calling myself a human pin cushion. From the outside I seem well, although my body is fighting itself; killing parts that are crucial to my survival.

Many people fight these same invisible battles. Autoimmune diseases to, bodily dysmorphia from scoliosis to anisomelia, we use fashion to hide these flaws.

Long sleeves to hide devices, braces to straighten, shoes to lift. What if we made these coverups beautiful? Stripped them of their medical stereotypes and transformed them into art.

Turning medical grade plastic into jewelry, covering certain points of the body not out of necessity but for artistic and personal choice.

This collection in summary aims to beautify illness. To create something pleasing from plight. Not to cover but to embellish what is already there. Using the devices and aids as inspiration instead of an obstacle.
